Tripping down memory lane...

In the past 24 hours two friends posted about their old love of Silverchair so I just had to re-listen to my favorite album of theirs which is not the grungiest of their albums. I was really in love with Neon Ballroom when it was released in 99. It was the perfect background for my senior year and all of the random thoughts/feelings that year brought me. I remember rocking out to this album alone and with friends in my old bedroom. I had a few close friends in high school but I actually loved time alone to just listen to music and think about what I thought at the time were deep and meaningful things. (Looking back I'm sure they were quite trivial). Everynight I ended the day with headphones on listening to one of two things.... either my discman with the newest CD (faves I remember playing the most: Tragic Kingdom, Mellon-Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and Neon Ballroom, STP, Nirvana and Pearl Jam) OR I would listen to recorded X-Factor radio show (I think that's what it was called... Steph maybe you can correct me if I'm wrong) hosted by Jeb the Fish hahaha. I remember hearing bands like the Aquabats on there as well as Violent Femmes and Bowie. Oh and maybe a different show called Out of Order that I could possibly be mixing up. Anyway I recorded those shows because they'd play ska music and other underground stuff I loved but couldn't really find on radio or MTV. I would listen as if I knew of some secret radio show that nobody else at school knew about. I'd crank up the headphones and lay out in the backyard and stare at the stars until I was ready to fall asleep and then I'd listen to the last song or two in bed as I'd drift off. Those are some good high school memories thought they weren't really shared with anyone but myself. I guess that's part of being an only child. I grew up to be more of an introvert and I'm still that way even though my social calendar would say differently. :)

October!

I was about to blog but instead got stuck researching ideas for the millions of upcoming events we have in October! Fun themed bride/groom shower, our Annual Halloween/Birthday Party, Disney Halloween Party, downtown for Halloween weekend and then actual Halloween! Oh and go ahead and throw in parent/teacher conference week, state/county observations at school (people in suits sit in while you teach and type everything you say and do so they can analyze it later) and an unfortunate ELD training the afternoon of our Halloween Party! Ugh! It looks like Brad will be stuck doing most of the prep just like last year. Good thing I married a man who is amazing in the kitchen! I have to start planning now because October 15th will be here before I know it and I want to get as much done as I can so that only the food is left for the day of the party. So exciting!!!!

In other news... we went to the local fair and just as I had predicted... it's still lame. I now understand why my parents never bothered to take me when I was a kid. They would always tell me what a waste of money it was but all I heard was how amazing it was from my friends.... I guess they had never been to Disneyland. lol

So excited!!!

I just purchased our Disney Halloween Party tickets! I'm so excited to experience this AND very excited that we are going with Sara and Chris!! It's official. We've been planning this for a few weeks but now it's a done deal. We already got our costumes the first day the Spirit Store opened and we are ready!

Night night!

Watching my first Netflix Instant Play on the iPad. :] It's so neat!

This movie brings back memories of watching movies in my bedroom when I was a kid. I think I made my parents rent this quite a few times or maybe it was on tv a lot. I feel like I still have every scene memorized. This movie is silly and completely awesome.

Sweet dreams.

Yes, it has started.

I'm home sick from work so I aactually have a second to post a few photos from last weekend. :]

Purchased a beautiful jar and now I'm addicted. I'm going to get a few more next time I'm shopping.

The large skull was glittered last year and the rest was don't last weekend. It turned out even better than I thought it would.

I made our Holiday wreath last year but Sara made the large bow for me so I could update it this year.

We also made some holiday headbands! The most time consuming part was wrapping the entire headband with black ribbon. I love it.

This week I'm hoping I kick this cold because we have my husbands birthday to celebrate on Friday! There is so much going on in the next month. I do not have time to be sick.

Photos from my morning walk.

I decided to snap some photos on my walk to Jury Duty so I could play around with Photoshop on my iPhone to kill time today. Here's what I got.

This pic was from my car while at a red light. :)

This was taken from my sunroof.

I love the crazy sun rays in the last one.

My friends rock.

A few weekends ago I took photos for my friend's wedding. I had also taken engagement photos for her because she's an awesome friend... I'd go as far as saying such a good friend that I'd consider her and her sister pretty much family. Anyway, I did their photos, put together her Bachelorette Party and helped out at the wedding because that's what I do for my friends. All I hope for is a "thanks a lot" and I hope they love the final product.

Today the doorbell rings and I see a shadow running down the walkway. I'm thinking a kid is playing doorbell ditch or something. We peek out the blinds and see that something was left on our doormat.

My friend and her husband made this cute little basket for me with a few items from the Body Shop, a Sephora card and a sweet card telling me how much they appreciated all of the work I put into their wedding. It's funny how the higher power floods your day with great things when you need it the most.

Day 15- Your dreams.. in great detail

Blog project update time... I missed yesterday which should have been this one and it landed on the perfect day!

I woke up yesterday morning with the most vivid dream ever! The dream started out with me driving in a van full of people friends and strangers. Oddly enough the friend I remember is an old friend from elementary school. We were riding somewhere very fast and one by one people were being ejected from the car. In the middle of this chaotic car ride my brain skipped scenes and I was them thrown in the middle of a routine lockdown at school. For some reason I decided to brave the hallway to fight for my students' protection. When I got into the hallway I was battling zombies wish one of those long lighters that you use to like candles with. As each zombie inched closer to me I'd stick the end of the lighter in their mouth and POOF they turned into a ball of fire and vanished into thin air!

I awoke in the middle of my zombie battle thinking that fighting zombies was pretty darn fun. A lot has been going on in my life this week that leads me to find an enlightening answer in this dream. Instead of letting certain "zombies" suck out my brains I need to POOF get rid of them. I took the lead of my dream... we will see how it works out. :) Bring on the positive influences in my life because that's the only way I will be able to ward of the negative vibes.

No-School Monday!

Today has been all kinds of fun. I slept in a little and texted my bestie because we made morning plans last night when the BBQ was over. We had purchased some Halloween flowers that we wanted to make into hair clips so we made a coffee/crafting date for this morning. Sara grabbed some more hair clips and some Starbucks and come over. We had so much fun creating more flowers that we even planed on making. It was fun experimenting with different materials and just putting the flowers together in different ways. By the end of the morning we were deconstructing and reconstructiong flowers. It was a blast! We have a few more crafting ideas to try out soon... maybe next weekend. Here is what we made today:

Exhausted!!

Sadly I didn't even take out my camera once tonight! I was too busy playing badminton, swimming and hanging with our friends. Here are the few camera photos I took. :) We had a great mellow time. I'm ready for bed. Sara and I have a craft project in the morning!
Night night.

Making some Birthday cupcakes for my friend.

I had some pink strawberry mix for some reason and you all know how I feel about pink. Red food coloring took care of that sissy pink. :]

Massive Blog Project Update

http://unjourdanslavie2.blogspot.com/

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Each year I get more and more excited when fall arrives. I know we are getting ready for Halloween insanely early but who cares!!! I did some shopping for new Halloween Decor today with my bestie. I had already scoped out Michael's early this week but today we hit up a few other stores as well. Plans are in the works for some super fun things in October! I'm already planning so much for Halloween that I forgot I have a party tomorrow that I need to get things for. Oooops! Anyway... here are a few things I got today! Tonight/tomorrow I'm going to bust out all of our old stuff and transform Granger Manor into the holiday house it's meant to be. <3

Some new creeps for our Halloween/Christmas Tree. This year we will do a better job at crossing the Halloween decor over to a snowy Halloween/X-mas theme... along the lines of Nightmare Before Christmas minus Jack Skellington all over the place. We will put our own twist on it.

Had to get this black cat ornament because we love Tuesday so much. I love anything black cat related. :)

Close up of our Frank ornament. Too dang cute!

Sara and I are going to make some cute spooky hair flower clips out of these soon. I love them!

We had the strangest cashier at Michael's today. She couldn't get over the fact that I was wearing all black first of all and she kept telling me there are other colors out there as if I wasn't aware. Strange lady. As I signed my receipt though she lightened up a little as she told me how pretty my wedding ring is. What a looney toon.

Off to get ready for a family birthday and then I need to start planning for tomorrow. I can't wait to spend some quality time with our friends by the pool. This is what long weekends are all about!

Wednesday... Almost there...

I'm so ready for the weekend already! Brad and I are taking over my parents' awesome backyard to have a pool party with all of our friends. I love throwing parties and bringing our friends together. I guess because I am an only child I really consider my friends as my family. Anyway, I need to track down a badminton set before Sunday!

Currently listening to The RZ Project while I cheek a few things online. It's so nice to be on the iPad compared to the Macbook. I didn't realize how cumbersome laptops were until we got this bad boy. It's amazing that i can't even tell that this thing is in my purse because it's so light! I love it. We were debating holding out until the next version but I just couldn't wait.

School is so far so good. Over the summer i forget how darn cute the kids at my school are. This one adorable girl gives me a hug on her way to class everyday and compliments me on my outfit. Yesterday she said: "I told my mom that you wear the prettiest clothes." How can you have a bad day after that. I have one student who tells me at least once a day how much fun my class is which shocks me because I'm really tough on my kids at the beginning of the year because I expect a lot out of each one of them. So many teachers assume that because a kid lives in poverty they don't have a chance but when you raise the bar the same as you would for a wealthy a kid you will be surprised by how much these kids can accomplish. I absolutely love my school and I know I was meant to be there. It takes a certain personality to deal with some of the things we deal with and I'm happy to do that for these kids.

Well, I'm going to paint my nails and get ready to crawl into bed with my cuddle bugs. Goodnight Internet land. <3

Bye bye long hair.

I'm not a creature of habit when it comes to my hair. I like to switch it up and it's been a while since I've had shorter hair. Here goes nothing.... Appt is at 4:00. Wish me luck!
